Merch by Amazon account APPROVED :)

Finally the wait is over, I have been accepted as a designer on Merch  by Amazon!
Yey!!!!!
I am right now little by little uploading my most liked designs, while I am preparing some only for Merch.
So, for those interested in joining I have here some updated (February 2018)  information.
Merch have been working for a while, though it was not my moment to join until now for personal and professional reasons, which I will not share here cause let's face it you want info about Merch.
1. GETTING ACCEPTED
I applied in middle of 2017 then during December I got a rejection E-mail.
I was sad at first, and wonder why? The E-mail is not that explicit about the reason. Though, it said that I need to provide more background. So I thought, maybe I got short in my introduction.
I applied again and in about 2 months later I got accepted. The info I share here is my experience from application to now (1 week after being accepted). My idea is to share what I learn and also keep a kind of diary for myself. I will update accordingly to what I encounter.
When signing into the program be prepared to:
* fill a form of personal information,
* fill taxes info,
* have a bank account (you need a bank they have accepted since you choose from a list. I didn't have one on the list so it took me 2 months to open one where I live, then I applied),
* create your brand name (I wanted to keep my "MCB Design" name)
* Introduce yourself
So, on that last one, don't go short like I did in the beginning. Write your motivation, why are you subscribing?, Do you have a plan? What designs are you thinking on providing? do you have any background in design? If not, you can still get accepted as I read from other websites and blogs. In any case, be sure to sell yourself.
Best thing to do while getting accepted is start designing, look for trends, what sells and what doesn't, decide if you are going to target a specific audience (a niche) or be general, look for similar designs to yours and see how they are doing. (I'll write another post next week about this)
While waiting, READ THE GUIDELINES!!! There are type of designs you cannot sell so be careful (e.x. drug use, sex explicit, copyrighted material, etc.)
2. DESIGNING
Amazon offers you tools to design on the right size for uploading the images, and the guidelines.
READ THE GUIDELINES!! I said it already, but avoid later frustration. Don't be lazy on this one, there are several points to consider from the design itself to keywords and titles for your products.
You can prepare your design with Photoshop, Illustrator, gimp or others, just be sure you work on CMYK not RGB because the shirts are going to be printed (RGB is for screens). Use the mock-up file on Amazon so you see how it will look like on a t-shirt and export from there to assure your file has the exact resolution.
If wonder what I use, I work with a mix of Illustrator, Photoshop and a free app for iPad which is very similar to Photoshop. I had the first version of SketchBook PRO and now I also use MediBang Paint for extra features.
3. SUBMITTING
At the beginning you will be able to upload one file a day with a beginner quota of 10 designs. According on how those sell, you will be upgraded.
Before, as I read in other websites, the first Tier was 25 t-shirts. I guess that with so many people wanting to join the program and many similar designs they lowered the quota. Right now I don't have info about how many are in the next Tier.
I hope mines goes up so I can also keep writing here my experience.
When submitting you need:
* To upload the design
* Choose the type of shirt (standard or fit)
* Choose 5 colors (I still don't now if later I could get more colors but I'll keep you updated)
* Write a tittle
* Write some keywords that describe your item (optional but DO IT)
* Write a description (optional but DO IT)
* Done
The design will go on revision for a few days and then, if passed, to the marketplace. Congratulations! You're selling on Amazon
TIPS
* Do a brainstorm of phrases and words for your title, keywords and description
* Select the more appropriate and those from where buyers are going to find your product
* Keep the title short, simple and readable
* Don't stack all the keywords (read the rules on this)
* Don't copy others
* Don't copy BRANDS !!! Be careful with copyright infringement, remember the design goes into a revision first and you will be risking your opportunity, the one that cost you months to get.
I'll keep posting my experiences in this new adventure, as they go.
Here are my very first accepted t-shirts
